9. Fuente Fuente OpusX 2020

When Arturo Fuente wants to release an exquisitely packaged cigar, it does. While many of the OpusX boxes could be considered simple yet elegant, the special releases Fuente gives extra attention to are usually something impressive to behold. The company definitely gave the Fuente Fuente OpusX 2020 release that extra attention and it’s easy to see why this comes in at number nine on our list.

If you’re thinking this box looks familiar, chances are you’re thinking of the Fuente Fuente OpusX 20 Years Celebration, which placed second on our 2016 Packaging Awards list. The box shape is identical, along with the general design inside the box lid, but the exterior of the box features new artwork and the color scheme is completely different and pays tribute to the colors of the United Arab Emirates, where this cigar is exclusively sold.

Overall, the presentation reminds me of the Cohiba Behike BHK release, with a beautifully lacquered box protected inside a velvet bag, which is then packed in a cardboard box. While the cardboard box and bag aren’t necessarily where this packaging shines, the pomp and circumstance of unpacking the box gives you the sense that you have something special. And that’s exactly what I think Arturo Fuente was going for. — Brian Burt.
