Cigar boxes with ashtrays built into the design are not exactly new to the industry, but there are a number of reasons they are not commonplace, oftentimes because they seem like an afterthought.
The Cohiba Silencio giftsets are clearly anything but an afterthought. It is made up of two separate sections: on the right, four cigars and a humidifier are located in a box accessed by opening a lid; on the left, a small ashtray is embedded into the base of the box.
However, the gift set has one more item of interest up its sleeve, namely a cigar stand built into a sliding section above both aforementioned sections that performs two purposes depending on where it is placed: sliding it to the right blocks the lid of the cigar section in place and places the foot of a cigar resting on the cigar stand in the perfect position to ash into the built-in ashtray, while sliding it all the way to the left covers up the ashtray completely while also allowing the lid of the cigar box section to open fully.
While the Silencio was originally made as a private blend for brand ambassador Sean Williams, they can now be purchased for $150 each, but with only 498 gift sets produced, there aren’t likely enough to go around. — Brooks Whittington.
