4. CRAFT 2018

RoMa Craft Tobac’s CRAFT Series represents some of the more interesting blends to hit the cigar market over the last handful of years and while the design of the cigars is certainly eye-catching, the packaging has been equally creative. This year’s release was packaged in a more traditional box with two rows of five cigars. While the wooden box was nicely constructed, this cigar is on here for one reason: a piece of metal.

Wicked Anvil, a Houston-based metalworks shop—and the outfitter of many custom pieces for RoMa Craft Tobac’s office and trade show booth—created a singular piece of metal which slid onto the top of the box. Cut out in the metal is the RoMa Craft Tobac logo. That singular piece of metal, which internally is referred to as the belt and weighs 3.5 pounds, took what was otherwise an innocuous cigar box and turned into one of the five best packaging designs we saw all year.

Furthermore, RoMa Craft Tobac gets bonus points for taking advantage of the unique shape of the cigar and packaging them in an alternating fashion to create an even better visual after you remove the Hemingway quote from the box. — Charlie Minato.
