3. Zino Platinum Z-Class (2017 Packaging Awards)

The Zino Platinum brand disappeared for a while before reappearing at the 2017 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show with two cigars nearly comically priced at $75 and $100 per cigar. Zino Platinum has never been cheap, but $100 is $100.

The good news is, if you spent $1,000 on a box of Zino Platinum Z-Crowns as a gift, the recipient would be floored. The Zino Platinum Z-Crown looks like something I’d expect to see in a Bentley photoshoot: bright colors, clean lines and an air of modern sophistication.

This is perhaps a good time to wonder what we would say if someone other than Davidoff created this packaging? While it earned third place overall, it only received one second place vote, two fourth place nods and a sixth place vote. If we at halfwheel have learned anything over the years it’s that style is very personal, but I can’t help but wonder if this would have exceeded the bar for most companies, but falls short of where we expect Davidoff’s prettiest boxes to be. — Charlie Minato.
