The Davidoff Limited Edition 2023 Year of the Rabbit is one of two creations from the Dominican-based company commemorating the Chinese Zodiac calendar that were released last year, the other being the Limited Edition 2023 Year of the Rabbit Flagship Exclusive that features not only different cigars but also completely different packaging.
Davidoff’s Zodiac Series started back in 2012 with the Year of the Dragon and a new creation has followed every year since, most with packaging designed to highlight traits about the individual animal on the Zodiac calendar.
The 2023 version is no different in that regard: a 5 15/16 x 54 double perfecto packaged in boxes with a gold-on-red color scheme that is designed with two different rabbit-inspired features. First, the lacquered exterior has an etched pattern similar to how a rabbit hops, and second, the 10 cigars in each box are laid out in a manner that is meant to mimic a rabbit’s warren, which are the connecting burrows that rabbits dig underground.
While not as impressive as the Year of the Tiger packaging—which tied for first place on halfwheel’s 2021 list—the Year of the Rabbit is still an impressive visual treat that continues the company’s trend of placing in halfwheel’s Packaging Awards. — Brooks Whittington
