10. My Father García y García (2016 Packaging Awards)

Since My Father Cigars, Inc. released its first limited edition in 2010, the company has capitalized on the opportunity to showcase not only cigars but its fanciest packaging. Individual coffins, heavy hinges and clasps, slotted trays in the boxes, raised metal logos, screen printed ribbons have all been featured at one time or another.

For the release of the Garcia y Garcia the company pulled out a number of accoutrements to make sure that the $35 cigar got a presentation worthy of its price tag. The Garcías started with thick wood boxes held together by shiny gold hinges and hardware; inside were individual slots to hold each cigar snugly, with a screen-printed red ribbon laid across them. Each cigar was adorned with a red foot ribbon and an updated version of the company’s dual band design for its limited editions and special release cigars. The lid was inlaid with an ornate design rich in golds, pinks and blues, while a matching thick paper flap covered the cigars, telling their story and showing José and Jaime García at their rolling tables. Capped off by an understated lid that featured the My Father MF logo in raised metal, the packaging was elegant, lavish and a new high mark for the company.
