The Victorville City Council will consider a parks smoking ban at its meeting tonight, scheduled to start at 6 pm.

The proposal would ban smoking and vaping in all city parks, as well as sports fields, recreational areas and parking lots. The proposal has already gained the support of several organizations, including St. Joseph Health, Kaiser Permanente, Loma Linda University Health, the American Cancer Society and Victor Valley Global Medical Center.

It brings to a vote a proposal that has been in the works since May 2014, when the Victorville Community Services Advisory Committee began discussing the idea and voting 4-0 to recommend that the city council adopt a complete ban on smoking and vaping in parks and related areas.

Should the proposal pass, a date would still have to be decided on for when the ban would go into effect.

Victorville is home to just over 121,000 people and is located approximately 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
