Altadis is growing its VegaFina Nicaragua line, but the latest addition isn’t coming to the United States–at least not yet.

The VegaFina Nicaragua 8-9-8 was unveiled at last week’s Inter-tabac trade show in Dortmund, Germany, and is the first new size to the line since it was launched at last year’s show. The 8-9-8 measures 6 3/4 x 43 and comes with a price of seven euros per cigar. True to its name, it’s packed in 25-count boxes, with rows of eight cigars on the top and bottom and a row of nine in between.

The VegaFina Nicaragua is a Nicaraguan puro, using a Nicaraguan Habana 2000 wrapper from Jalapa, a seco leaf from Jalapa for the wrapper, and a filler blend of ligero and seco from Jalapa with viso from Estelí.

The line debuted in the U.S. in December 2014, coming in a 5 3/4 x 42 corona ($5.50), 5 x 50 robusto ($6) and 6 x 52 gran toro ($6.25).

A representative from Altadis U.S.A. told halfwheel that there are no plans to bring the 8-9-8 to the U.S. market at this point.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
