The United Arab Emirates Federal Tax Authority has announced a host of new taxes, including a “100 percent tax” on tobacco products.

It won’t take effect until the fourth quarter of this year and details about how the taxes will be applied are still not entirely clear. Hans-Kristian Hoejsgaard, ceo of Oettinger Davidoff AG, noted that it’s unknown if the taxes will be applied to the wholesale, distribution or retail price.

The United Arab Emirates is made up of seven emirates, notably Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
