In a rare bit of good legislative news, the Tupelo City Council is considering amending the city’s smoking ban to allow for smoking in tobacco retailers.

Specficially, the law will allow smoking in tobacco retailers and business that generate more than 50 percent of their sales from e-cigarettes. In late July, the City Council delayed a vote on whether to amend the city’s smoking ban to include banning the using of e-cigarettes in places where traditional tobacco products cannot be smoked.

The city’s current smoking laws allow for cigar lounges.

Tupelo is located in Lee County, the northeastern part of the state. It has a population around 35,000.
