Oscar Valladares’ growth in the cigar business over the last three years has been incredible. Leaf by Oscar, a cigar best known for being wrapped in tobacco leaf instead of cellophane is in hundreds of stores across the U.S. with demand that seems to increase by the month.
Now, there is The Oscar. It’s a cigar that is once again wrapped in tobacco leaf, this time a candela leaf covering three-quarters of the cigar, but it marks a lot of first for Valladares. It’s the first time he’s using an Ecuadorian habano wrapper and the first time he is using Nicaraguan fillers.
The results were somewhat predictable. It’s a very good cigar with a great balance of sweet, bready, creamy and a touch of pepper. Rest assured, The Oscar is more than just a packaging gimmick. — Charlie Minato.
