Thompson Cigar has landed a new exclusive line of Romeo y Julieta from Altadis U.S.A., the Romeo y Julieta RyJ Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez.

It’s a medium to full bodied Nicaraguan puro that features a habano 2000 wrapper. It is offered in four sizes, each in 20-count boxes:

  • Romeo y Julieta RyJ Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez Churchill (7 x 50) — $7.49 (Boxes of 20, $149.95)
  • Romeo y Julieta RyJ Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez Magnum (6 x 60) — $7.99 (Boxes of 20, $159.95)
  • Romeo y Julieta RyJ Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez Robusto (5 x 52) — $6.49 (Boxes of 20, $129.95)
  • Romeo y Julieta RyJ Nicaragua by AJ Fernandez Toro (6 x 52) — $6.99 (Boxes of 20, $139.95)

The cigar is a regular production line and is being made by Fernández in Nicaragua. While it is getting an official launch on Monday, Feb. 26, it is currently available for purchase.

Fernández and Altadis are no strangers to working together on cigars; most recently the two entities paired together to create the Romeo San Andrés by Romeo y Julieta, which will launch in March. They have also produced the Gispert Intenso, Monte by Montecristo AJ Fernandez, and the H. Upmann by AJ Fernandez. Fernández has also produced cigars for Altadis U.S.A.’s Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta brands, though those went to the distributor Santa Clara, Inc., which handles catalog and internet sales.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
