After teasing plans to honor the company’s 50th year in business, Arby Sosa has shown off the Sosa Pirámide #50. The 5 3/4 x 55 pirámides is based on the Sosa Classic, but uses a Cameroon-seed wrapper grown an in undisclosed Latin American country.

Sosa Cigars are made by Arturo Fuente in the Dominican Republic, Sosa told halfwheel it’s the first time this wrapper has ever been used by a Fuente-made cigar. In addition, the 50th Anniversary contains an extra leaf of Dominican tobacco, which Sosa declined to comment on.

“We made it in a torpedo shape because that’s the size we are best known for,” Sosa told halfwheel.

The cigar will be limited to just 60 boxes of 25 cigars priced at $9 per cigar. Each box will be signed by Juan Sosa, Nelda Sosa, Juan Sosa Jr. and Arby Sosa, while each cigar will have a special 50th anniversary band. In addition, an undisclosed additional cigar will be in each box.

Eventually, the Sosa Pirámide #50 will be added to the regular Sosa Classic line, but without the secondary band and signatures.

Arturo Fuente has a long relationship with the Meerapfel family, who are known as the foremost growers of tobacco in the west African nation of Cameroon. The Meerapfel family also handles much of the global distribution for Arturo Fuente. The Cameroon seed has traveled to Ecuador, where the tobacco is grown and sold at a fraction of the price of true African Cameroon.
