A new bill proposed in the New Jersey Senate calls for a tripling of the state’s taxes on other tobacco products, including cigars. Cigar taxes could jump from 30 percent to 90 percent of the wholesale price if S. 1213 becomes law. The bill, proposed by Sen. Joseph F. Vitale, D-Woodbridge, cites reports from Tobacco Free Kids as calling for the need for increased tobacco cessation programs.

Currently Vitale is listed as the only sponsor for the bill introduced on Jan. 30.
