Due to the abnormally dry conditions, the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors have passed new restrictions on smoking and grill use at the county’s parks.

According to The Sacramento Bee, smoking will no longer be permitted in nature areas and unpaved trails, while barbecues will be limited to picnic areas or beaches.

First offenses will carry a $50 fine with each subsequent offense costing violators $100.

The American River Parkway has experienced 29 fires to-date, while the Sacramento Fire Department indicates that major fires have expanded over more than 235 acres in the county.
