Requesting a table outside so you can smoke is a thing of the past in Rockville, Md., as on Monday night the city council passed a ban on smoking and vaping in the outdoor seating and dining areas of bars and restaurants.

The proposal passed by a 4-1 vote and goes into effect immediately. While no fines were included in the original ordinance, they are expected to be decided at a future meeting and are expected to be around $50, according to a report by the Washington Post.

Restaurants and bars will be tasked with enforcing the rule, with the ordinance stating that no owner, manager or employee may knowingly permit any person to smoke or vape in an outdoor serving area. Should a person smoke or vape in such an area, staff must refuse to wait upon, serve, seat or accommodate that individual, and must request that they stop smoking or vaping. If the individual continues to smoke, they must request that the person leave the building or area.

Rockville is located approximately 16 miles northwest of Washington, D.C. and is home to roughly 65,000 residents.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
