After making a splash with the Azan line as last year’s IPCPR Convention and Trade Show, Roberto Duran Premium Cigars has announced a a pair of new releases for this year’s show: Neya and Baracoa.

The two new cigar lines address two segments of the cigar market, as the Neya is geared toward consumers of premium cigars, while Baracoa is targeted for those who seek value from their cigars. The two new lines join the previously announced super-premium Roberto P. Duran Cigar Brand as new offerings from the company for 2014, fulfilling Duran’s commitment to provide a full line of cigars to retailers.

The Neya is a premium brand which comes in a 20 count cedar cabinet. The filler and binder both come from Nicaragua while the wrapper is a Ecuadorian habano. The Neya line will be released in five sizes: a 5 1/8 x 42 petit corona, 4 7/8 x 50 robusto, a 6 x 52 cañonazo, 6 x 56 toro and 6 x 60 vitola called the Yanquee. Size specific pricing has not been announced yet, but the line will retail for between $4 and $7 per cigar. The cigars are being made at the Nicatabaco S.A. factory in Nicaragua.

In a press release, Duran said that Neya is a full-flavored cigar that uses aged Nicaraguan ligero to drive the blend, adding that “this is a full flavored cigar in the way that we understood the term in Cuba, which is to mean not spicy but a strongly flavored cigar which increases in strength when smoking the two larger sizes.”

The Roberto Duran Baracoa was created to be a great everyday cigar, with the Baracoa name referencing the Cuban city of Duran’s family origin. The filler and binder are both Nicaraguan, while the wrapper is an Ecuadorian habana criollo.

There will be nine sizes created for the Baracoa’s debut: a 4 7/8 x 50 robusto, 6 1/8 x 52 torpedo, 6 x 52 toro, 7 x 47 churchill, 4 x 58 gordito, 6 x 60 gigantes, 5 x 50 box-pressed robusto, a 6 x 52 box-pressed toro and a 6 1/8 x 52 box-pressed torpedo. Each size will come in a 20-count box with single stick prices slated to be between $3 and $4.50 per cigar.

“Baracoa is a true power house value cigar gives boasts plenty of quality for the price,” noted Duran.

The company is planning to begin shipping the cigars following the trade show.

Update–shortly after this story was published, the company announced the shipping plans.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
