Not all good things must come to an—absolute—end.
In 2002, Habanos S.A. discontinued the Ramón Allones 8-9-8, but last year word go out that the cigar would return, to Germany. The 8-9-8 was selected as the German Edición Regional for 2014 and it has now begun shipping to retailers in the country.
It’s the same size as the 8-9-8 Cabinet Selection Varnished, a 6 2/3 (170mm) x 43 lonsdale. There was a shorter Ramón Allones 8-9-8, 5 2/3 (142mm) x 42, that was discontinued in the 1970s, and replaced by the larger aforementioned version. The release is limited to 2,000 individually numbered boxes of 25 cigars.
The cigar, like the Partagás 8-9-8, draws its name from how the cigars are packaged: eight cigars on the top row, nine cigars on the middle row and eight cigars on the bottom row.
Two German La Casa del Habano retailers have listed the cigars for sale at €337.50 ($380) per box, or roughly $15.20 per cigar.
