March 11, 2014 — Adam DeSiena (rhymes with “See Vienna”), founder and president of DeSiena Cigars, has announced the launch of the new DeSiena 312, a boutique premium cigar. The cigar honors the March and December birth months of his two children.
“We chose the Honduran factory of Nestor Plasencia,” he reports, “knowing his industry-wide reputation for growing superlative tobacco and his production capability. He has created a blend of truly world-class stature.”
The medium-bodied DeSiena 312 is a complex blend, with all long-filler tobaccos that are aged a full 3-5 years … the finished cigars rest in cedar another 3 months. The wrapper is Nicaraguan-grown Habano viso; the binder is Honduran. The filler combines Colombian and Nicaraguan visos with Nicaraguan and Honduran ligeros. All tobaccos are from Plasencia plantations. DeSiena declines to describe the flavor profile, preferring to let the smokers and reviewers form their own opinions. The cigars are bunched using the entubado method, which prevents uneven burns and hard draws.
The DeSiena line consists of four popular shapes: Robusto (4-1/2 x 52), Toro (6-1/2 x 54), Gordo (6 x 60) and Corona Gorda (5-5/8 x 46). They are cello-tubed and packaged 20 cigars to a Spanish cedar-lined wooden box, with simple artwork that emphasizes the DeSiena name. The bands feature the heraldic crest of the city of Siena, Italy, the former home of the DeSiena family. The cigars’ MSRPs run from $7.15 to $9.10 and are price protected. All shapes of the DeSiena 312 are now appearing at better tobacconists nationwide.
