Phil Zanghi, best known for his Debonaire and Indian Motorcycle lines, has announced a new project that he is helping bring to market, Cattle Baron Cigars.

The new line is a collaboration with Bryan Mussard, a cattle producer from Dillon, Mont. that Zanghi was introduced to by his partner, Danny Sinclair, who also happens to be a producer of wagyu. Mussard is not only a cigar smoker and successful rancher, but three years ago created Gorgeous Vodka, which offers a gluten free, cranberry tea flavored vodka that is made to pair with cigars.

Cattle Baron Cigars Sizes White

Cattle Baron Cigars uses a Nicaraguan habano wrapper over a Dominican binder and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. It is being released as a regular production line in four sizes: Cowboy’s (4 1/2 x 44, $6.25), Stockyard’s (5 x 52, $6.75), Bull’s (4 1/2 x 58, $7.25) and Trail Boss’s (6 x 54, $7.75). Each size comes in 20-count boxes.

The De Los Reyes factory in Santiago, Dominican Republic is producing the cigars, the same factory that Zanghi uses for Debonaire and Indian Motorcycle.

Zanghi told halfwheel that the cigars will be officially launched at this year’s IPCPR Convention & Trade Show in July, but he will be helping place the cigars into key accounts during the year.

“Our lives mirror each other in two different worlds, yet our passion for a premium handmade cigar brought our different paths of life together,” Mussard told halfwheel. He added that the project spanned two years from idea to an informal launch, which happened recently at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Convention in San Diego, Calif.

“I wanted a cigar that I liked, not just a cigar with my band on it,” Mussard said. “Phil didn’t want to make a cigar for someone that just wanted their name on it; it had to be authentic for both of us and it is. I make great steaks, he makes great cigars.”

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
