For much of its 43 year history, Padrón never offered a tubed cigar, but that has changed in the past year, and cigar smokers across the country will begin seeing even more appearing on store shelves in the near future.

The company has begun a more widespread release of two new tubed additions to its 1964 Anniversary Series, the Presidente (6 x 50, $15.50) and the Soberano (5 x 52, $14.50). Both sizes are box-pressed, offered in natural and maduro wrapper options, and come in square, two-piece aluminum tubes packed 15 to a box.

“We felt it was important to have something in tubes in the Anniversary line,” Jorge Padrón told halfwheel. He added that the format does well in duty free stores as well as among people who want to take their cigars to the golf course or other locations and want them protected.

The cigars got a limited release last summer, and this week will head to Tobacconists’ Association of America (TAA) members, a group of about 80 retailers. The cigar will get released to all Padrón retailers following the 2017 IPCPR Convention & Trade Show in July.

Last year, the company released its first tubed cigars, the Padrón 1926 Serie No. 90, a 5 1/2 x 52 round robusto that was offered in both natural and maduro versions. Jorge Padrón noted that the No. 90 has been doing extremely well for the company.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
