Eddie Ortega of Ortega Cigars took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon to announce a new event specific cigar that will come out at Fox Cigar Bar’s Foxtoberfest Cigar & Beer Festival on October 19 in Gilbert, Ariz.

The cigar is still in the very early stages of development, and Ortega made it clear that this will not be simply an extension of his Serie D and Cubao core lines. He said he wants to create fun projects made in collaboration with store owners, and hinted that this could be the first of several similar projects that will be released in the coming year. He stressed that he really wants to keep his core lines “in tact” and that projects such as this allow him to do that while giving stores and event unique offerings.

The packaging mock-up, in particular the band, shares a design aesthetic with Ortega’s Wild Bunch series, the 12-cigar collection that has been released monthly throughout 2013.

Ortega has not finalized the blend, price or production numbers, but expects to have a number of details firmed up in the coming week or two.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
