La Gloria Cubana Adds Sanson as Third Regional Release

When news came out of La Gloria Cubana’s second regional release, the Piramide Supra for the northeastern portion of the United States, brand manager Michael Giannini was already looking ahead at the brand’s next regional release. On Thursday, Giannini unveiled specifics of this new release that is heading to brick-and-mortar retailers in the southeastern region of the country.

The La Gloria Cubana Sanson is an 8 x 60, making it the longest of the three regional releases as well as the one with the smallest ring gauge. The Gorda Gorda for the Western US was 6 1/2 x 64 and the Piramide Supra for the northeast was 7 1/4 x 62. Giannini describes it as a “very small batch offering,” as only 300 ten-count boxes are being made.

“The blend was originally developed for the 2012 Trunk Show line-up and was one of the final three blends. We ultimately went with another blend for Trunk Show, but we liked this one so much that we decided to bring it out in a small run,” he added. As for specifics on the blend, however, Giannini was tight-lipped. “The blend is delicious,” he said.

The La Gloria Cubana Sanson has a suggested retail price of $8.00 per cigar or $80.00 per box. According to Giannini, the name stems from the Spanish translation of Samson, the biblical figure who was granted supernatural strength by God to combat enemies and perform heroic feats, a fitting choice because the cigar is “big and powerful,” he noted.
