London retailer J.J. Fox has announced details regarding a limited edition Padrón made to honor the British tobacconist’s 225th anniversary. The Padrón Family Reserve Fox 225 Anniversary Cabinet Selection is a 6 x 52 box-pressed Toro featuring a sun grown wrapper that appears to be a dark Maduro.

Only 225 cabinets of 10 are being made with pricing set at £400.00, which at current conversation rates is just over a somewhat fitting $64.00 per cigar. According to the J.J. Fox website, the cigars are available for preorder and will be delivered after September 24, 2012.

The full description reads:

The Fox 225 Anniversary Cabinet cigars are a unique blend within the Padron Family Reserve Range. The cigars are 52 x6” in size and hand made in June 2012 by Padron’s best rollers with the most premium long-filler sun-grown tobacco leaves from the Padron farms in the valleys of Jalapa and Esteli in Northern Nicaragua. These full bodied, flavourful, complex and very well balanced cigars are available in a Box Pressed format in Cabinets of 10 and each box is unique and numbered, one for each year of the company’s history from 1787 to 2012.

Padrón is scheduled to make at least one more cigar for a retailer’s anniversary, a cigar for Washington D.C.-based W. Curtis Draper’s 125th anniversary, of which a prototype was last seen in June. The two releases follow last year’s release of the Padrón SI-15, made for Florida-based Smoke Inn’s 15th anniversary and the 2010 Padrón L. J. Peretti Company 140th Anniversary.

The $64.00 converted price range far exceeds the MSRP of any current Padrón offering in the U.S., where the range tops out in the low $30.00 area.

At least one other Nicaraguan manufacturer has confirmed to halfwheel that they were approached by J.J. Fox for an anniversary cigar, although it remains to be seen if that project is still in the works.
