Lubbock, Texas Smoking Ban Tabled

At least four members of the seven-person Lubbock City Council would have voted against a proposed smoking. Instead of actually taking up the matter, the City Council instead voted on whether to delay the vote on the ban which would have covered restaurants, bars and forced buffer-zones around entrances to all business.

In total, four members voted to delay the vote.

According to KCBD, Council Members Joy, Price, Hernandez and Gerit were in the majority. Interestingly, Price and Joy would have voted for the ban, Hernandez’s vote was unknown and Gerit was vehemently against the matter, as was Council Members Gibson, Griffith and Mayor Glen Robertson, who sits on the City Council.

It’s unclear when the matter could be brought up again.

Lubbock is located in the northwestern part of the state, home to more than 236,000 residents as well as Texas Tech University. It is part of Lubbock County and is located just over 300 miles west of Dallas.
