The first collaborative project between Crowned Heads and My Father Cigars, a cigar called Las Calaveras that is dedicated to the memory of those who have passed away in the previous year, has begun shipping to retailers.

Jon Huber of Crowned Heads posted a video to the company’s website today making the announcement. He mentioned that a Las Calaveras t-shirt and hat have also been released via the company’s online store.

Las Calaveras was announced in February 2014 as a new limited edition line of annually released cigars. The inaugural release, called  Las Calaveras Edición Limitada 2014, comes in three sizes, a 5 x 50 robusto, 6 x 52 toro and 7 x 54 Churchill. Each size is being limited to 1,000 boxes of 24 cigars, for a total run of 72,000 sticks, with prices expected to be between $8.00 – $12.00 per cigar. The blend uses Nicaraguan leaves for the filler and an Ecuadoran Havana leaf for the wrapper.

The cigars are being produced at the My Father Cigars factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
