Under a new executive order, smoking will be banned in and around many state-owned buildings in Kentucky. Gov. Steve Beshear signed the new law yesterday, which specifically bans smoking in and around executive-branch-owned buildings. Not affected are the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort, the state courthouses, the Kentucky Horse Park and the Kentucky State Fairgrounds. The latter received exemptions for economic reasons according to Beshear.

The new law goes into effect on Nov. 20, 2014 and will affect 2,888 state-owned buildings.

It’s part of a larger tobacco-free policy Beshear is pushing. He hopes that the Kentucky legislature would follow his lead and push more anti-tobacco measures in the 2015 session.
