On Dec. 1, the A.J. Fernandez New World Connecticut will show itself in the public light for the first time. It seems likely that it will make subsequent appearances, but as of now, an event at Cigar Inn in Manhattan is the only guaranteed place to find the cigar.

News of the extension to the company’s New World line broke a few weeks ago and now there is confirmation of at least the 5 1/2 x 54 robusto being made, but it’s likely that size may only be for the event. Blend-wise, the company says that it will use a U.S. Connecticut shade wrapper, Mexican San Andrés binder and fillers from Brazil and Nicaragua.

“A.J. is extremely excited about introducing this limited batch of the New World Connecticut cigars for this event,” said Kris Katchaturian, managing partner at A.J. Fernandez Cigars in a press release.

Katchaturian told halfwheel the regular production version of the cigar is still being finalized, but indicated that it’s highly unlikely the four original New World sizes which measure 55-58 in ring gauge will make an appearance in the New World Connecticut line. Instead, the company is planning on four thinner sizes at around the $6 price point. The 5 1/2 x 54 is likely to not be included in the regular release.
