A number of cigar brands shared the island-themed booth of Jim Robinson and Oscar Valladares, brought together by their distribution agreement with Valladares. It was a busy booth, but one that was quite relaxing and reflective of the island lifestyle.

There are no new cigars or sizes for any of “Island” Jim Robinson’s portfolio, which includes the Leaf by Oscar, the Island Jim, The Woody, and Big Johnny. But, Robinson did have something new: pork sticks.

That’s right, Island Jim BBQ Pineapple Pork Sticks. He’s offering them to cigar shops to put at the register as somewhat of an impulse buy, as they’ll be priced around $2 per stick. Robinson developed the recipe, and will pack the sticks in the same boxes that are used by the Island Jim No.2.

By day 3, Robinson said he went through upwards of 1,500 sticks, and I can tell you they were quite tasty.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
