AKA Cigars is back this year at what looks to be a slightly larger booth, but that’s because there’s a new name as well. Acme Cigar Company is a new company that they’ve started – not just a new brand – and as such they also have a new factory and tobacco supplier. On the AKA side of things there isn’t anything new at the show, so the focus was definitely on Acme.
One thing they were very happy to talk about was the new factory they were using for Acme – the Nicaraguan American Cigars S.A. factory located in Esteli, Nicaragua. Also on the tip of their tongue was the tobacco supplier they were using, working with the Oliva Tobacco Company to get tobacco for the new Acme cigars.
The company is launching with three lines – the Acme Premier Ecuador, Acme Premier San Andreas and the Acme Route 66.
The Premier Ecuador line uses a Ecuador Habano wrapper, Esteli Criollo and Mexican San Andrés Broadleaf binders and filler from Nicaragua and Dominican Republic. The Premier San Andreas uses Mexican San Andrés Broadleaf for the wrapper, Esteli Habano and Mexican San Andrés Broadleaf for the binder and Nicaraguan tobacco for the filler. Each line features the same three sizes and pricing: 5 x 50 for $7.40, 7 x 48 for $7.90 and 6 x 54 for $8.40. Each come in a 12 count box that is built to be closer to a humidor than many other cigar boxes I’ve seen, showing off a pretty impressive seal.
The last line for Acme is the Route 66. There is one more size in this line and slightly different pricing; there are names for the sizes and they come in 20 count boxes. The “Hot Rod” (5 x 50, $5.90), the “Chopper” (7 x 48, $6.40), and the “Big Rig” (6 x 54, $6.90), while the other size is a 8 1/2 x 52 called the “Tandem” that retails for $7.40. The Tandem is different, as it’s double capped and has a leaf marking the middle of the cigar. It’s also specially seamed specifically so if you do choose to, you can cut it in half and share it with a friend. If you feel like smoking it all yourself however, just clip both ends and have at it.
All three Acme lines are going to be regular release and should be shipping in mid-August.
