It split the city council on Tuesday night, but a new limited smoking ban will be coming to Gautier, Miss. as the governing body voted 4-3 in favor of the new regulations.

Gautier Mayor Gordon Gollott told WLOX-TV that private clubs will be exempt from the ban, while restaurants will be allowed to have outdoor smoking sections though they must be at least 10 feet away from any entrance. It also does not prohibit the use of e-cigarettes, nor does it require hotel and motel rooms to be smoke free, according to GulfLive.

Public buildings also become smoke free with the ordinance’s passage.

The full text of the ordinance that was being considered can be found here, though it does not contain the final language of the version that the council passed.

Gautier is a coastal town located in the southeastern part of the state and is home to just under 20,000 people.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
