The second release of Black Label Trading Co.’s Santa Muerte limited edition will soon be on its way to retailers.
The company announced that it will be released on Friday, Oct. 13, meaning it will be at stores ahead of the Dia de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, holiday for which it is named and that is celebrated from Oct. 31 through Nov. 2.
The cigar uses six filler tobaccos, drawing from Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and the San Andrés region of Mexico. Both the binder and wrapper are Ecuadorian habano leaves, which results in a medium-bodied and rich flavor profile according to the company. “You experience layer upon layer of coffee, malt, spice, and cocoa,” said James Brown, creator of BLTC and partner at Fabrica Oveja Negra, via a press release.
Santa Muerte is being released in the same two sizes as last year, a corona gorda (5 1/2 x 48, $10) and short robusto (4 3/4 x 52, $10), both of which come in 20-count boxes. A total of 800 boxes are being made at BLTC’s Fabrica Oveja Negra in Estelí, Nicaragua, split evenly between the two sizes.. However, this year’s release is a bit different from the inaugural batch, as the Connecticut tobacco in the filler has been removed, and both cigars are now $1.50 more expensive.
