Battleground Cigar, the Connecticut-based manufacturer of cigars with a historical theme to them, will be adding an additional packaging format to its  “Widow’s Son” blend at the 2014 IPCPR Convention and Trade Show which kicks off on July 19 in Las Vegas, Nev.

Known for lines that have featured historical American icons such as Ulysses S. Grant, George A. Custer, Robert E. Lee and numerous others, in 2012 the company released “The Widow’s Son,” named for Gen. Lewis Armistead. That cigar has been previously released in a 5 x 42 corona, 6 1/4 x 50 torpedo, 5 1/2 x 54 robusto and 6 1/2 x 54 robusto, and this year the robusto will be getting a glass tube option that will come in eight-count mahogany chests.

When it was first released back in 2012, Mike Tarnowicz of Battleground Cigar said that the new line is the result of an extensive collaboration with several Freemasons from Feeding Hills, Massachusetts. Brothers Michael Nemeth and Andrew Tarnowicz collaborated to create a complex cigar that is dominated by a rich and intoxicating flavor.

Armistead was a Confederate brigadier general in the American Civil War who amassed a significant amount of battle experience in the Mexican–American War as well. He was wounded, captured, and died following Pickett’s Charge at the Battle of Gettysburg.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for Major League Baseball, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
