Atlantic Cigar & My Father Team Up for Talavera Jars (Update)

On Friday, Atlantic Cigar Co. will begin selling its latest exclusive, the Talavera Edición Exclusiva 2015 by My Father.

Talavera is known globally as a type of pottery produced in Puebla, Mexico, but that pottery actually got its name from Talavera de la Reina, a city in Spain known for its famous pottery. At one time, the city produced jars that were used to package cigars and now Atlantic is paying a tribute with a release named after the city, in jars of course.

It’s being produced by My Father Cigars S.A. and made entirely of Nicaraguan tobacco including a corojo 99 wrapper, habano binder and a proprietary filler blend. There are three sizes being produced: Corona Extra (5 5/8 x 46, $7.15), Gordo (5 5/8 x 60, $7.90) and Toro (5 5/8 x 54, $7.65). The jars are actually identical in shape, but due to the ring gauge difference the amount of cigars per jar will depends on the jar.

The Gordo comes in jars of 12, the Toro in 16 and the Corona Extra in 21.

Atlantic says the cigars will come with a Boveda.

A total of 500 jars have been produced between the three sizes but a spokesperson for Atlantic declined to describe the breakdown of how many jars were created for each vitola. It will be available both online and at the company’s Cigar Republic locations in Danbury, Conn. and Elmsford, N.Y.

Update (Dec. 16, 2015) — Atlantic had updated the packaging, removing a secondary band and is no longer stating the cigars as “wet-packed.”
