Outdoor smoking will soon be subject to new laws in Ann Arbor, Mich. The City Council voted 9-2 in favor of a smoking ban last night. It prohibits smoking within 10 feet of a bus stop and 20 feet of any windows, entrances or ventilation systems of city property.

In addition, the new law will also give the city administrator the authority to designate other public lands as smoke-free.

Violators will be subject to a $25 or community service. It is expected to go into effect in the coming days.

Ann Arbor is located in southeastern Michigan. It is home to the University of Michigan and has a population just under 120,000.
