Next month, A.J. Fernandez Cigars’ New World line will officially have a new member of the family, as the New World Connecticut is set to hit store shelves in May.

The line has been on the radar since mid-November of last year, and while it made an appearance at a Dec. 1 event at Cigar Inn in New York City, it was uncertain when it would get a full release and in what sizes.

Today the company announced that the New World Connecticut will be released in four sizes: a 5 1/2 x 46 corona gorda, 5 x 50 robusto, 6 x 52 toro and 6 x 54 belicoso. None of these were the size that was shown off in December, a 5 1/2 x 54 robusto, and none will be box-pressed like the original line. They will all come in 20-count boxes with pricing similar to that of the current New World line, around $6 per cigar.

AJ Fernandez New World Connecticut Single

This new addition uses a Connecticut shade-grown wrapper, Mexican San Andrés binder and fillers from Nicaragua and Brazil. The company calls is a medium bodied with notes of cream, wood, and almonds.

The original New World line was released at the 2014 IPCPR Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas last summer and began arriving in stores last August. Fernandez created the line to pay homage to “the discovery of the mystical smoking leaf named tobacco by the Europeans, when their ships landed in what is now known as the New World,” the company announced in a press release. It was a special project for Fernandez as it was the first cigar he created with his father, Isamael, who had worked for the Plasencia family for 17 years prior to joining his son. “I am more than thrilled that the public reception has been so positive, that it has once again allowed us as father and son to create the New World Connecticut,” he said via a press release.

A.J. Fernandez recently announced the New World Brute, an event exclusive for the Texas Cigar Fest happening in Houston this Saturday, April 25.

I strive to capture the essence of a cigar and the people behind them in my work – every cigar you light up is the culmination of the work of countless people and often represents generations of struggle and stories. For me, it’s about so much more than the cigar – it’s about the story behind it, the experience of enjoying the work of artisans and the way that a good cigar can bring people together. In addition to my work with halfwheel, I’m the public address announcer for the Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training, as well as for the Salt River Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury and previously the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League. I also work in a number of roles for MLB.com, plus I'm a voice over artist. Prior to joining halfwheel, I covered the Phoenix and national cigar scene for Examiner.com, and was an editor for Cigar Snob magazine.
