It means the law.

La Ley is one of a host of new products coming from A.J. Fernández. While it’s not one of the new cigars listed on the company’s website, La Ley has received an informal debut with banded product appearing at last month’s InterTabac trade show in Dortmund, Germany.

Select U.S. retailers got a taste of La Ley in August as the company shipped a variety of stores a plethora of new product in advance of the Aug. 8 deadline when the U.S. Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) regulations of cigars went into effect.

Invoices obtained by halfwheel show at least two sizes of La Ley Habano—Robusto (5 x 54, $7) and Mareva (4 x 44, $5)—though there could be more.

A.J. Fernández, like many others, shipped new product prior to Aug. 8 in order to meet the deadline for FDA rules. Any new product released after Aug. 8 would be subject to FDA regulation and as such would require pre-approval from FDA before the company could begin selling the product.

In the past, the company has declined to comment about specific details for cigars like this.
