For General Cigar Co., IPCPR 2012 was about FOUNDRY and FOUNDRY. Or so was the case outside of the large booth of the company that parents CAO, Cohiba, Hoyo de Monterrcey, La Gloria Cubana, Macanudo, Partagas, Punch and others where all anyone wanted to talk about was the center of the General booth. Inside there [...]

Editor’s Note: This is the one week of year where Cuba is allowed to dominate cigar news with no apologies. The XIV Festival del Habano took place last week and dominated the discourse of cigar news. There weren’t any major surprises, but there was quite a bit of news. March is quietly one of the [...]

Earlier today, CAO tweeted the above picture, showing off two new cigars, OSA Lot T and OSA Lot 46. General Cigar Co. has confirmed that these will be featured at events beginning in April. Late last year, Jerry Cruz showed off two banded CAO OSA Sol prototypes. Coincidentally, the two sizes Cruz had were a [...]

Editor’s Note: The first story in the news this week is surrounding a new Rocky Patel, and it’s a bit controversial. I explain the details after the jump, but it’s led to a lot of speculation amongst manufacturers, consumers and retailers as to what really went on. Truth be told, there is one common denominator, [...]

Editor’s Note: The biggest news of the week was the Friday announcement from the attorneys for Pepín García indicating the legal matter of El Rey de los Habanos had been settled. Our original story contained an error referring to the separate matter of Tabacalera Cubanas as “lawsuit” instead of “dissolution.” (To be clear both companies [...]

One of the larger questions going into the 2011 IPCPR, CAO? (That was, “CAO”, “insert question mark.”) At one point there seemed to be a belief that CAO would remain as independent as possible, including the symbolic action of an independent booth. That was not the case… CAO was just another stop on the General [...]
