Review: Illusione Burn Churchill
For those of you that don’t know…
About 2 weeks ago, I saw on Twitter that one of the Illusione reps had smoked an Illusione I had never heard of, dubbed “Burn”…
A little cyber sleuthing turned up the fact that Dion (of Illusione Cigars) had developed a specific blend for Rocky Patel’s brand new cigar Lounge, called (oddly enough) “Burn”…The lounge, which is located in Napels, Florida, has 3,000 square feet, and an official capacity of 210…The lounge looks like this:

As one of the many features, Rocky has asked some of his fellow cigar makers in the business to produce specific blends that will only be sold at the lounge. There are actually going to be nine different selections offered, from these manufactures: Padron, Drew Estate, Arturo Fuente, Ashton, C.A.O., Casa Fernandez, Illusione, La Flor Dominicana, and My Father Cigars. All of the cigars from these manufacturers will be Burn Exclusives, and only sold at the Burn Lounge (exactly like how Arturo Fuente Casa Fuente cigars can only be purchased at Casa Fuente in Las Vegas).
The Illusione Burn is the first blend to be released, and comes in 4 different vitolas (and there were only 50 boxes of each vitola released). They are (left to right)::

- Robusto- (5 x 52)- $9.75
- Toro Gordo- (6 x 56)- $10.10
- Torpedo- (6 1/4 x 52)- $10.80
- Churchill- (6 7/8 x 48)- $10.60
When I first heard about these cigars, I asked Dion about the blend, and he wrote:
“The blend is a prototype, made with a good amount of Aganorsa Criollo ’98x“
When I asked him which vitola he liked best, he said the Churchill, so that is the vitola I am using for the official review (although I smoked one of each vitola total)…

The Cigar itself is a wonderful specimen, with astounding construction…It is gorgeous to look at, with a reddish brown wrapper that is totally smooth and seamless…It is quite hard when squeezed, just short of rock hard…The first thing I thought when I smelled the wrapper was that “this smells JUST like a Viaje Double Edged Sword”…A combination of leather, citrus, spice and chocolate…Really great smell…Predraw has sweet cedar, coffee and chocolate notes, with a bit of spice…
The First Third starts with the prefect amount of spice on your tongue, along with flavors of aged oak, leather and nuts…The Spice dies down to the background fairly quickly, and the profile turns more creamy right before the end of the third…

The Second Third continues the creamy trend, along with cedar and leather…There is also a nice sweet graham cracker flavor that creeps in…The Spice is almost gone (although there is still just a bit left on the retrohale)…

The Last Third is still quite creamy and sweet, but less of each…However, the flavors remain pretty much the same…

Final Thoughts:
- While the Illusione Burn was not as mild (nor as complex) as the Singulare Phantom from eariler this year, it was still fairly mild…Think of the Burn blend as a cross between the Singulare and the Epernay…
- Between all of the viotlas, I liked the Churchill the best in terms of flavor and complexity, although the Torpeado was a close second to me…The Robusto was definitely in last place…However, all 4 vitolas exhibited the exact same amazing construction, draw and burn…Not usual for Illusione cigars…
- As mentioned earlier, the only place you can find this blend is at Rocky Patel’s new lounge, Burn…I called and spoke to a girl there, who told me they would not ship any of the blends they sell there, so the only way to get one is to know someone who lives near there, or someone who is visitling there, or if you live near Naples yourself…(on a related note, thanks to Scott for picking my samples up for me
- The Burn (ahem) wavered back and forth a bit, but nothing major, and the perfect draw more then made up for it…
- The Final Smoking Time was 1 hour and 40 Minutes…
The Bottom Line: While the “Burn” blend is quite flavorful, I was honestly hoping for bit more spice and complexity in the profile…It is a good cigar (and it is a great LOOKING cigar), but the question “Is it substantially better then the cigars that Dion has out already on the market” will be met with an answer of “No”…Having said that, I think it is pretty cool that the Burn Lounge has it’s own blend by so many of the top cigar makers, and this cigar is a great addition to the Illusione lineup…Pick some up if you can, and you won’t be disappointed…
Final Score: 86

I smoked this same size a few weeks ago, and enjoyed it quite a bit.
Nice Review!
As a Reno resident, I have the fortune of visiting Dion's shop (Fumare). I picked up a Burn Toro today while picking up a box of my fav Illusione 4/2g. Don't know how many boxes he gets to stock in his shop - I don't recall seeing any retail boxes, just the open boxes in the humidor. I concur w/ the review: beautiful stick, very good draw/burn, nice medium flavor and aroma. Interesting to see a bigger ring, compared to most Illusione sticks. I won't give up 4/2g's for these, but will try them again if Dion still has them on my next visit.
Nice review
Hadn't even heard of this one. Looks like I have to make it down to Florida.
Love Naples.
Another Great Review!
Nice review, as always. Sounds like a blend I would definitely enjoy.
Interesting cigar. Thanks for the contest!
RP lounge? wow, I don't ever get around Naples though....
How ironic that Mr. Patel is able to enlist so many of his competitors that produce much better cigars than he does...
Nice review. I do like the concept of Rocky's Burn shop. But I was surprised that Rocky wouldn't have a Rocky blend for the lounge too! Seems like he trows a cigar out there for everything...
I hope some of the exclusives for the lounge will feature a smaller RG. Is Rocky making his own house exclusive, too?
slick move by RP not to ship Burn exclusive cigars made by other premium brands.. makes people actually want to go there
Sounds interesting.
mmmmmmm, Illusione
Nice review, Brooks. While I'll be glad to try these, you're saving me from chasing them down. My wallet thanks you!
That would be a nice 9 pack sampler
Why Naples?
Thanks for the review! If I find a botl that is visiting the lounge I will seek some out. Sucks they won't ship orders!
oh oh I want one! What's new right! Lol! Nice review...had no idea these existed, that's how out of the loop I am now. Cheers!
Seems like a quality cigar, although I don't think I'll be sampling a Burn at Burn any time soon, unless I'm the lucky one this week. Hopefully the lounge does well. If Rocky gets other solid blends from other companies, especially the Padrons, I think he'll clean up.
Thank's for the review.
Thanks for the review - sound like these are worth seeking out to try!
Nice review. Look forward to trying one if I can get my hands on them.
Are you going to review the other exclusive ones when they are released? Looks cool!
Sounds llke a good smoke. Not something I am going to stress over finding, but if I happen to find one..... Thanks!
Totally cool that so many other manufacturers are getting in on this. Now I gotta find a way down to FL.
Rocky Patel makes terrible cigars. That's it.
Thanks for the awesome review
Sounds nice, yes, I'd give it a burn.
Guy,
France
Great review.Nice lounge by Rocky Patel I'm going to Florida next year in spring one of the places going to stop by first.he he he.
peanut
Nice review, and very nice place by Rocky! Very cool that all will make special sticks for his place. I should have bought a few singulare, however some of the Illusione stuff just leaves me wanting more after that kind of money is dropped! I enjoyed meeting Rocky at my local event last year.
I'm BURNing up with desire for one of these sticks ;)
love the look & burn is what i do! lol !!
Thanks Dude
I have yet to meet an Illusione that I didn't like. To me Dion is alot like DPG in that both make flawless, flavorful sticks that you can taste their makers signature qualities almost immediately.
I will only get to sample one of these babies if I win because I live in Canada.
Fingers Crossed.
@ 1st this seemed an odd concept, surely Rocky could fill a shop w/ diff. blends, on 2nd thought it's unique so why not?
Thanks for the great review! I do you know when the other companies will be releasing their editions of "Burn" cigars? I would love to see what Padron does. Also, why would these companies want to make a specific cigar for Rocky? Cigars for the competitor? Just dont get it.
Good review. Definitely be getting down to Naples ASAP to check out the lounge...
I would love to "Burn" one of these on my next trip to Burn.
hell yeah, solid
Nice reddish color for the name Burn on that wrapper
Hook a brother up!
Nice review. That cap screams class.
Hmm sounds pretty good. I would definitely like to try one to see how it compares to dions other lines.
Thanks for the great review!
Great review. The Singulare and the Epernay are the two blends of Dion's for me, so having something that is similar to the two sounds like something that I would really like to try.
Too bad Jason Witten didn't score another touchdown for a contest last week, and of course Illusione rocks
Sounds like a winner!!
