3. Hammer + Sickle Museum Edition Moscow City (2016 Packaging Awards)

For the first release in its Museum Series, Hammer + Sickle patterned the jar after one of the onion domes of Saint Basil’s Cathedral, the iconic Russian Orthodox church in Moscow’s Red Square that has been captured in countless images. It’s the first in a set that will include the remaining eight domes and two spires and is slated to come out over the next 10 years, though FDA regulations have unfortunately cast some uncertainty on that given the agency’s rules on packaging changes.

Inside the yellow and green dome and off white column base sit 20 aged Moscow City toros with a slightly tweaked blend and bearing a band that also features the iconic church in brilliant silver on a red background, and gives an idea of what is to come in the Museum Seriesw, or what may have come and gone as is likely the case in the future.

The Hammer + Sickle Museum Series jar is a piece that truly lives up to its name and earns its high ranking for its ability to capture both place and feeling while being worthy of meriting prominent display.
